The bronze greyhound

The Greyhound. This magnificent decorative hollow cast Bronze Greyhound, possibly attributable to a pupil of Pierre Jules Mene, is sadly without provenance. Nor is there a foundry mark though it’s likely a French piece of late 19th Century, possibly taken from a Susse Freres foundry mould. Mounted on a lovely bronze and red marble base, it is an elegant work reflecting the breed’s long history. Length 51cm, Height 36cm, width 20cm, weight 16kg It has been in our family for a long time and was a gift to my great great grandfather who coursed Greyhounds. Down sizing my accommodation so sadly I no longer have room for it. A perfect gift for a Greyhound lover or would make a great Racing Trophy. Delivery arrangements are negiotable (collection is possible) although delivery costs are not included in the listed price and would be payable by the buyer.

London 1894 solid silver matchsafe of large size.

London 1894 Victorian English hallmarked solid silver matchsafe of large size, and heavy weight. Vesta cases and match safes are airtight cases made to contain short friction matches and keep them safe and dry. They were made in many materials, and some in precious metals like this one, usually with gilt linings, to protect against corrosion from the match heads. They were widely made and used from 1890-1920. Many had a loop attached, like this one, to attach to an albert chain. Now, they are very collectable and interesting small antique silver items. Size-2 3/8 inches long by 2 1/8 inches wide, and weighing 50 grams. Hallmarks are rubbed, and there are some age commensurate minor marks to safe. Match safes were meant to hold matches, but can now also be used for pills, two photos and the like. With solid hinged closure to side. A nice well made and large example.
