Dated 1819, superb George III figured mahogany secretaire bookcase.

Carved with the date 1819 under the base, is a stunning original George III figured mahogany secretaire bookcase, from a large country home in Sussex England, where antiques were collected by the family for generations. Wonderful well matched figured veneers to the base contain two drawers beneath the top deep third drawer, which is a drop front secretaire unit, opening to reveal a very well fitted figured interior comprising 11 drawers (including one secret drawer, and one double fronted drawer) with original brass pulls, and 9 pigeon holes having shaped friezes, and a black and gilt re-leathered writing space. Note that the very finely figured matching veneers carry through to all the inner fittings, which would only be found on the best pieces of the period. The top glazed unit has shaped astragal glass doors, with original glass, enclosing 3 fully adjustable shelves, and comes with the original key. Size-43 inches wide by 85.75 inches high by 21 inches deep. A lovely and useful piece to be used as a writing or laptop computer desk with storage, with a bookcase/display cabinet above. The whole stands on original splay feet with shaped apron, and is completed by lovely cast brass ring pulls. A wonderful original and useful piece, with excellent colour, patination, and in very good condition.

Mahogany Edwardian Antique Secretaire Bookcase

AN EDWARDIAN MAHOGANY SECRETAIRE BOOKCASE Circa 1900, this beautiful antique secretaire bookcase is a lovely deep rich flame mahogany with satinwood inlay to the cornice, the doors and the top surface. The top section consisting of a pair of astragal glazed doors with original bevelled glass and strip of decorative brass, opening to reveal fully adjustable mahogany faced with line inlay shelves which are sturdy enough to take the heaviest of books. The glazed section sits neatly on the secretaire section below, which consists of a pair of mahogany flamed doors with crossbanding to each door, behind which is a deep shelf, which provides a massive amount of extra storage. The secretaire fall, with its wonderful flame mahogany front, has 2 pretty decorative brass handles, now fully buffed, and is provided with a fully working lock and key. The drawer opens to reveal a fully fitted interior with pigeon holes all with chequered line inlay, and small inlaid drawers with beautiful brass handles. The leather skive has been replaced with a new deep burgandy and gilt tooled leather skive making this ready for another 100 years of use. All runners and locks checked and provided in showroom condition this is a beautiful example and one that will give years of pleasure.
