| A very good oil on canvas by the French born landscape painter Joseph Vincent Nicholas Francis Weiss , born Paris 1859 . It is a plein air painting of the South Downs in England done in the late 1890's -1900 . Weiss moved to England in the early 1890's where he painted many landscapes in Sussex and other southern counties . He was strongly influenced by the Barbizon school in France . | A 18th century oil on board attributed to the English painter Richard Wilson (1714-1782) . Richard Wilson was a founder member of the Royal Academy in 1768 and between 1769-1780 exhibited 30 of his paintings there . This work dates from 1765 after his travels to Italy . It is either a view of an Italian landscape or more likely a classicised view of a British landscape with figures admiring the view and taking refreshments .The painting is housed in the original fine composition giltwood frame which dates from the 18th century . | A fine quality seventeenth century Dutch oil on canvas entitled "The Ambush", in the manner of Philips Wouverman 1619-69, a prolific painter of landscapes enlivened with horsemen. Direct from a private source, the painting needs some minor repair and would benefit from a sympathetic clean. The frame is seventeenth century reconstructed to fit the painting in 1936. This can be improved or replaced. |
