The most charming and characterful oil on canvas painting of dogs. The scene appears to show a meeting of high class dogs with low class dogs on the door step of a fine house. The quality of the painting is superb and the character of each animal so wonderfully observed. The nature of the painting and the fact that the work is not signed would indicate that it was commissioned as an ilustration for a book or advertising where artist's signatures were often omitted. The painting speaks for itself in quality and must have been painted by a professional artist. The painting has been professionally cleaned and a tiny hole repaired and is untouched otherwise. The work is mounted in a good Victorian period swept and gilt frame and the whole works very well together. A real eyecatching and talking point artwork in great condition and of wonderful quality. C.1900.
